Aggregate samples taken from the roof and walls of the 15th Century`s shrine of Bibi Jiwandi, situated at Uch Sharif, District Bahawalpur, were analyzed for determining, both mineralogical and chemical, composition of the construction / plastering material used at that time. Samples were analyzed by using various laboratory techniques including petrography, sieve analyses, X-ray diffraction and chemical analysis. Photomicrography of the thin sections was also carried out. The results indicate that material used in the construction of the shrine is a mixture of natural materials, basically limestone fragments and lime concretions, which have been mixed in suitable proportions, along with fine sand and clay, to form the plaster.
