Abstract:
Toxoplasma gondii is an intracellular protozoan parasite of major zoonotic importance, with transmission pathways that connect humans, domestic animals, and the environment. Pregnant women represent a particularly vulnerable group, as infection can lead to severe outcomes for both mother and fetus. Understanding the epidemiology of T. gondii is essential for developing integrated strategies under the One Health framework, particularly in climate vulnerable regions where changes in environmental conditions may influence pathogen persistence and transmission dynamics. This study investigated these ro epidemiology of T. gondii among 367 pregnant women in Dir Upper District. Venous blood samples were collected and analyzed using immune chromatographic tests (ICT) and enzyme-linked immune sorbent assay (ELISA)for detection of IgM and IgG antibodies. Socio-demographic and exposure related data were gathered through structured questionnaires, and chi-square tests were applied to identify risk associations. The overall sero prevalence of T.gondii infection was 34.6%. A significant association (P 0.05). These findings highlight the importance of awareness campaigns, improved food safety practices, and minimizing direct exposure to potential reservoirs during pregnancy. By integrating zoonotic surveillance with maternal health interventions, this study contributes One Health insights that can support climate-resilient public health strategies. Strengthening community-level awareness and preventive practices is crucial to mitigating the risks of T. gondii infection in vulnerable populations.
