Abstract:
The research was planned to study the effect of Gamma Amino Butyric Acid (GABA) on the growth parameters and stem anatomy of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) under salinity stress. Pot method was used to check the effect of different concentration (0 mM, 1 mM, 2 mM and 3 mM) of GABA on plant height, root and shoot fresh weight, root and shoot dry weight, root and shoot length, spike length, awn length, number of root and leaves, and leaf area of plants at 0 mM and 120 mM NaCl level of salinity in both varieties. Free hand sectioning method was followed to prepare permanent slides with serial dehydration in ethanol (30%, 50%, 70%, 90% and 100%) using double-stained technique of Safranine and Fast green stains. Changes in anatomical attributes including dermal tissue, parenchymatous tissue, conducting tissue and mechanical tissue of stem of all plants was examined using light microscope. GABA showed its positive effect at 1 mM in both varieties under non-saline condition. Under saline condition it showed its maximum effect at 3 mM in FSD-08. In ANAJ-17, maximum effect of GABA was seen at 1 mM under saline condition. Observed data is helpful in studying the structural and anatomical changes of wheat varieties influenced by GABA application under saline and non-saline condition.
