Abstract:
Total number of patients seen was 361 with a ratio of male to female 5:2. The commonest diagnosis was depression followed by neurosis of which the predominant forms were hysteria and anxiety, Psychosomatic conditions accounted for almost 13% of the patients, by far the most common being male sexual problems(107 of all patients). Roughly one out of every 20 patients was epileptic and the same ratio held for mental retarded and organic mental conditions. More than 1 in 10 were schizophrenic, 3% suffered from addiction. In all cases men were more than the women except hysterical neuroses(23 women versus 5 men). Despite cultural differences, relative in-cidence of various disorders in Pakistan is the same in Africa and Western World.
