Abstract
The plantation of a particular area is of paramount importance in scientific research and biodiversity conservation. The floristic study of a region is significant for the protection and management of plants as it manifests information about plants and their condition, in addition, it adds to the beauty of the area. The vegetation of a region is a recreation source, provides shade, ameliorates air quality and mitigates extreme heat by providing a cooling effect, as well as useful for educational and research purposes.Nusrat Jahan College (NJC) is a higher education learning institute located in Rabwah also known as Chenab Nagar, a city of Chiniot on the bank of river Chenab. The flora of NJC was introduced in 2015 and is well maintained. During 2022-2023 several surveys were conducted to document the plantation of the NJC.The floristic diversity of NJC constitutes total 38 plant families encompassing 82 plant species, belonging to 68 genera. Based on specie-richness, three prominent families reported were Asparagaceae (10), Asteraceae (9) and Cupressaceae (4). These families with a total of 23 tree species accounted for 28% of the plant life. The remaining 79 families contributed 59 tree species, making up 72% of the flora. The 18 plant families recorded with single species each contribute 21% of the flora. The 2 genera with the highest number of species were Dracaena (4) and Euphorbia (3). The remaining 8 genera constitute only two species (12%). In addition, 58 genera were represented by a single species (85%).
