Abstract:
Malnutrition plays an important role in tuberculosis, because it leads to impaired killing of mycobacteria, in the case of cobalamine deficiency and it also decreases pulmonary defence, by interfering with the regeneration of respiratory epithelium, which is vital for the integrity of the pulmonary system. Tuberculosis, HIV and malnutrition may be related in more ways than have hitherto been considered, a vicious cycle may exist between the three, such that any one is promoting the other two. Here the relationship of tuberculosis and nutrition is discussed in this article.
