Abstract:
Adsorption of Zn2+ ions from aqueous solution of 0.1 M NaC1 on iron hydroxide (am) was studied on the neutral surface hydroxyl groups in the temperature range (25-70°C). Two H+ ions were released per Zn2+ ion adsorbed. The adsorption can be explained in terms of bi-dentate bonding between the neutral surface hydroxyl groups and the adsorbed Zn2+ ions. The adsorption data fitted the linear form of the Langmuir equation. The maximum adsorption per unit mass of the iron hydroxide (am) increased with the increase in temperature.
