Abstract:
Sloshing phenomenon is likely to occur whenever a partially filled tank of liquid undergoes acceleration or deceleration. If the oscillations in the tank are allowed to continue they can create slosh forces that may have an adverse effect on the stability and structural integrity of the vehicle including damage to the tank. These forces also produce the noises referred to as "clinking noises" in the fuel-tanks. Analysis of fluid sloshing involves identification of flow patterns inside the tank. This is done using Computational Fluid Dynamics tools CFD-GEOM, CFD-ACE and CFD-VIEW.
