Thermodynamics of formation of ZnO.

Abstract:
A dual electrochemical cell incorporting doped zirconia and thoria electrolytes has been used to determine the standard Gibbs free energy, Gf(ZnO), and entropy, Sf°(ZnO), of formation of ZnO from the measured emf f the cell in the range 973K to 1373K. The calculated values lead to the following expression for the standard Gibbs free energy of formation of ZnO: GP(ZnO) = -364041 + 133.8T j.
