Abstract:
The ultimate aim of drainage is to provide crops the most suitable environments for their growth to sustain constant economic yields. Drainage is only one of the environmental factors. All the drainage efforts concentrate on effective control of watertables. The science of drainage is still in its initial stages, and no general solution is available to apply everywhere. If drainage' system is not properly planned and executed, it will cause many complex problems which may be harmful to agriculture practices. A review of the drainage problem in the Sukkur Barrage area is given briefly in this paper, which indicates that salinity problem is dominant and waterlogging is limited to small area consisting of low lying depressions along the canals.
