Abstract:
Fascioliasis caused by Fasciola hepatica can no longer be considered as a disease of the live stock only. A significant number of human cases have been reported since 1980 and several geographical areas have been described as endemic for human fascioliasis. In human the infection causes serious hepatic pathology. The infection is transmitted by consumption of contaminated vegetable or water. The larvae pass from the duodenum through the intestinal wall to abdominal cavity and then penetrate the hepatic Glisson capsule and enter the hepatic parenchyma and the biliary ducts where they develop into adult flukes. Two clinical stages are recognized in human fascioliasis: an acute stage is which coincides with larval migration and worm maturation. Chronic stage is recognized with the presence of adult flukes in the bile ducts. Ectopic infection occurs when the flukes infect the unusual location. Keeping in view the importance of human fascioliasis the present communication may be helpful to provide some information of this infection.
