Abstract:
The prevalence and density of Gyrodactylus species infection and details of fry, length and weight were recorded at a commercial fish farm on the River Test, Hampshire, U.K. The survey at Romsey fish farm commenced on 21st April, 1988 during which 4 tanks were monitored on a weekly basis. In all sampling weeks Gyrodactylus mucus infection showed high prevalence (70 - 100%) at 12-17 C in all 4 tanks. Only infected fish were processed for analysis of covariance on the basis of infection degree (parasitic density). On 28th April, Gyrodactylus population increased (75 fluke/scrape). The observation clearly indicate that the density of Gyrodactylus changes with the change of temperature and time.
