Abstract:
A karyotypic analysis of Allium cepa L. var. Shallot was undertaken to determine phylogenetic relationships within the chromosome complements. The karyotype was characterized by six sub-median and tow sub-terminal chromosome pairs. The longest chromosome in the karyotype was chromosome 1 of group I, while the shortest one was chromosome 8 of group II and measured 12.60 and 8.3711 respectively. With the exception of chromosome 2 and 3 each pair of non-homologous chromosome differed significantly from one another.
