Abstract:
Objective: To compare TyG index with HbA1c for diagnosing gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) keeping 75-gram OGTT as standard for diagnosis by measuring AUC. Methodology: This Comparative cross-sectional study was done from Dec 2017 to Dec 2019 and included 226 pregnant women without GDM and 50 with GDM, as per IADPSG criteria. Comparison between various parameters including age, BMI, blood pressure and biochemical parameters were carried out by Independent sample-t tests. ROC analysis was carried out to measure the AUC for TyG index, HbA1c, BMI and total cholesterol. Results: We found highest correlation between TyG index with BMI, cholesterol and HbA1c. Area Under Curve (AUC) measurement for depicting the diagnostic prediction of various biomarker indicated TyG index to have the highest AUC in comparison to HbA1c and other biomarkers [{TyG index: AUC = 0.712 (95% CI = 0.631 - 0.793, p < 0.001)}, {HbA1c: AUC = 0.657 (95% CI = 0.562 - 0.752, p = 0.001)}, {BMI: AUC = 0.553 (95% CI = 0.466 - 0.639, p = 0.257)} and {Total cholesterol: AUC = 0.511 (95% CI = 0.410 - 0.612, p = 0.815)}]. Conclusion: TyG index has shown higher AUCs than HbA1c, total cholesterol and BMI.
