Abstract:
Syphilis is not an uncommon disease untreated patients transmit the disease to their spouses. Women may transmit the disease to infants. Early detection of syphilis in infants is almost impossible because of the hidden nature of early manifestation of congenital syphilis. To highlight this aspect we report two cases. First case was a woman who contracted disease from her husband. Second case was an infant who contracted disease from his mother who had secondary syphilis. It is concluded that best way of preventing congenital syphilis is to screen pregnant mothers for syphilis.
