Abstract:
The study of the aerial roots (pnematophores of mangrove plant Avicennia marina (Forsskal) Vierh. resulted in the isolation of a flavone pachypodol (5,4-Dihydroxy-3,7,3-trimethoxyavone) and one sterol, Jsitosterol. The former compound is being reported for the first time from this plant whereas the latter has already been reported but not from the mangroves of Pakistan. Pachypodol was found to possesses anti-glycation activity which is reported here also for the first time.
