Abstract:
The study was conducted in two Tehsils namely Dir and Barawal of District Dir upper in 2001. A total number of 60 respondents i.e. 30 Village Organisations (VO) members and 30 non VOs members were interviewed by using proportionate sampling technique to assess the social and economic impact of village organizations of DASP on the local community and the data was analysed through simple means. It was revealed during the study that there was 346% increase in the saving level of the sample VOs. 80% of the sample VOs arranged demonstration plots in their respective areas, through the Project. 7% of the total members of VOs were trained by the Project in different training programs. About 53% of the total VOs had different developmental schemes, 73% of the sample VOs adopted agriculture/forestry packages and 37% of the sample VOs adopted livestock packages. Data regarding non VOs respondents reveals that 77% of the sample non VOs respondents did not become members of the VOs because of anti NGO propaganda, 50% of the sample non VOs respondents were aware about the different trainings programs, 43% benefited from different developmental schemes, 20% benefited from Animal Husbandry activities and 50% benefited from the activities related to Agriculture sector. The study recommends that all the members of the community be motivated to become members of the CO2; serious attention be given to combat anti NGO propaganda; in time funds be provided for the different developmental activities; micro credit facilities be provided for income generating activities; advance training in different sectors be arranged; necessary steps be taken for registration of VOs in cluster form to attract funding agencies and politics free atmosphere for a sustainable community development program.
