Abstract:
Small scale study was carried out to screen soft ticks for carrying borelleia infection and their possible role as vector transmission. In thin connection, soft ticks Ornithodoros (Argasidae) were collected from human dwellings in village Malhnor Vena near Mitthi, Tharparker, Sindh-Pakistan. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) results revealed positivity of these soft ticks at base pair 520 against a published primer ranging from 1080 to 80 base pairs. Taxonomic identification confirmed that the ticks collected belonged to genus ornithodoros in family argasidae. Further large scale investigations are required to establish baseline data on these ticks and their transmission in human subjects.
