Abstract:
Cotton is the most important cash and fibre crop of Pakistan. In the present manuscript, a comprehensive review of genus Gossypium (cotton), along with species and sub-species and their geographical distribution throughout the five continents, has been given. The requirements for growth and the development and uses of cotton have been presented. The cotton producing regions, cotton production in comparison with the world, contribution of cotton to Pakistan`s economy and textile industry, research activities and production constraints have been reviewed.
