Abstract:
The effect of aqueous solution of NaOH of different concentration on purified jute cellulose was investigated by change-in-titve method. There was no loss of cellulose above an alkali conc. 9.5%. The alkali sorbed by the sample and the iodine absorption by alkali treated samples were constant after 21% alkali. It is a suggested that the alkali-cellulose inter-action is a surface-adsorption phenomenon.
