Abstract:
Treatment of five forest species including Broussonetia papyrifera (paper mulberry) with Indolyl acetic acid and Indolyl butric acid was tried. The treatment consisted of soacking shoot cuttings for 24-30 hours in the solutions (1 gr. in 10 cc absolute alcohol mixed with 500 cc distilled water). The cuttings were then planted and watered. The results were encouraging specially with paper mulberry compared to untreated plants. The hormone treated plants had earlier and better growth of roots and shoots. Samples of paper mulberry with hormone treatment and otherwise have been sent to the Forest Laboratories, Chittagong to report on the utility of the species for production of paper pulp. If the report is favourable, a project to introduce paper mulberry cultivation will be undertaken as an under storey of Changa Manga plantation.
