Abstract:
This investigation was undertaken to study the usefulness of the Community Periodontal Index of Treatment Needs (CPITN) as a rapid method of estimating the level of the chronic inflammatory periodontal disease and also to investigate the incidence of decayed, missing and filled teeth and most common teeth extracted in the patients referred for extraction in the oral surgery department of the Liaquat Medical College Hospital, Hyderabad.325 patients were examined, using CPITN codes DMFT, and teeth extracted were recorded. The result showed that majority of the patients 179 (55.09%) had supra gingival or subgingival calculus and only one patient (0.3%) had deep pocket. The dental caries incidence DMFT was 3.75 and most common teeth extracted were mandibular first molar and maxillary first molar and least common were maxillary central incisor.
