Abstract:
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) was studied in adults (> 15 years of age) over a two years period. Following the morphological classification, the immunophenotyping was performed using a panel of monoclonal antibodies. Out of the 29 cases, C-ALL was the most common. The T-ALL, null ALL & B-ALL followed in order of frequency. Among the known prognostic indicators of ALL, the FAB subtype, the age at presentation, white cell counts are all. of considerable importance alongwith the immunophenotype. Immunological classification not only is used to predict prognosis hut is also helpful in establishing minimal residual disease (MRD), thus helping clinicians in planning therapeutic strategies. Moreover immunophenotype is extremely useful in resolving cases of Acute Undifferentiated Leukemia.
