Abstract:
Yield and adsorption capacity of active carbon is affected by a number of factors. The present study was designed not only to compare various indigenous raw materials for their effectiveness to get high quality activated carbon, but also to find out the conducive optimum activating conditions required to carry out the reaction. Comparison method was adopted to test the adsorption efficacy of the product obtained. The results revealed that Cotton sticks furnish maximum percentage yield (50.4%) of the product while the maximum absorption capacity of Bagasse was measured using methylene blue. Comparing the raw materials it was observed that Cotton sticks furnish higher percentage of active carbon as compared to other raw materials but high absorption capacity of the product obtained from Bagasse.
