Abstract:
Cortinarius brunneoumbonatus, sect. Brunnei is proposed as a new species from moist temperate forests of Malam Jabba and Gabinjabba, district Swat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The distinguishing features of the new species are: i) umbonate pileus, ii) more or less bulbous stipe with a lilaceous tomentum at the base , and iii) larger basidiospores measuring 9.5-11×7.5-8.2 µm. Identity of the new species was also confirmed through molecular data inferred from nrDNA ITS sequences. The description of the new species is presented and a comparison with similar species is provided.
