Abstract:
The present research work was done to evaluate the anatomical differences and molecular analysis of some selected species of family Arecaceae as less molecular and anatomical data is available with reference to this family in Pakistan. Arecaceae is amajestic family for its various medicinal and commercial properties. Anatomical and molecular characterization is the important features for the identification and classification of plants. In the present work many anatomical structures (of transverse sections of leaves) such as thickness of cuticle, size and shape of leaf epidermis, sizeand shape of hypodermal cells, size of palisade and spongy mesophyll cells, presenceor absence of silica bodies, size of silica bodies, size and shape of vascular bundles (xylem and phloem) and size of strengthening tissues (sclerenchyma and collenchyma cells) were observed. The in silico activity was carried out by the phylogenetic analysis of the selected species of family Arecaceae. For this purpose, we used the MEGA11 program for the construction of phylogenetic tree. Moreover, DNA barcoding of selected species of this family was also performed. Forth is purpose two DNA barcodes matK and rbcL were analysed to determine if adequate variation exists to discriminate among species. This research work will provide a comprehensive view on morphological and anatomical characteristics of selected plant species for their correct identification and the phylogenetic evaluation data will provide correlation among species. While DNA barcoding would become an ideal tool for species of Palms systematics and greatly enhance the taxonomic knowledge especially within speciescomplexes.
