Abstract:
The investigation is directed to two points: (1) Whether the introduction of "Hard Core", so useful in explaining high energy scattering, will affect the wave functions of the neutron sufficiently to make an applicable difference to the calculated capture cross-section. (2) Whether the experimental results which are nearly all for the capture cross-section of neutron in water need to be corrected in order to compare them with the calculated value which refers to capture by isolated protons. It is thus of great interest to see that this molecular effect is very large when the scattering reaction in water (H2O) is compared with the calculated scattering from protons.
