Abstract:
A simple technique of multiple linear regression has been used to compute the synthetic sonic log from the electrical resistivity logs (laterolog shallow & micro-spherically focussed log) and the bulk density log. In this technique the response of electrical resistivity and the density logs are converted into sonic log which is the record interval transit time (?t) of the compressional wave velocity. The relationship presented here has been tested in a well containing different lithologies. Computed synthetic sonic logs are also compared with the already available sonic logs of the same well. Excellent agreement has been obtained in clean lithologies of shale and reasonable agreement has been obtained in thin layers of calcite embedded in shale. Synthetic sonic logs are also computed with and without density logs in the same lithologies and in the same well. The results are relatively better with density logs, however the results are also acceptable even without density logs.
