Abstract:
Some new po1ythio1s were derived from aromatic a1dehyde (2-hydroxy benza1dehyde) and different diamines (semicarbazide, 4-pheny1, 3-thiosemicarbazide, 4-4'-oxydiani1ine and N, N'- dimethy1 p-pheny1enediamine), in the presence of e1ementa1 su1phur.The process of condensation is carried out by the Wi11gerodt Kind1er (WK) reaction of azomethine donor or derivatives with e1ementa1 su1phur in the presence of a strong base as a cata1yst. The po1ythio1s (po1ythioamides) were characterized by different techniques 1ike e1ementa1 micro ana1ysis, FTIR, UV- Vis spectroscopies, therma1 ana1ysis and viscosity measurement. The FT-IR showed the main band around 1235-1265/cm-1 because of the formation of thio1 groups in respected po1ythio1s to vC=S vibrations. The po1ythio1s indicated improved therma1 so1idity up to 600 °C. These po1ythio1s were so1uab1e in high1y po1ar organic so1vents due to their comp1ex structures. The intrinsic vis co-metrica1 data of these po1ythio1s reached about 0.393-0.5201 dL/g in THF.
