Abstract:
Tylenchorhynchus paracanalis n.sp., collected from the rhizosphere of sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L) in Hadejia (Kano state of Nigeria), is described, illustrated and diagnosed. In having sinuous canals it comes close to T. canalis Thorne & Malek, 1968 but differs in having a rounded lip region, shorter stylet with stylet knobs sloping posteriorly, smooth tail terminus, absence of postrectal blind sae and mor anteriorly located excretory pore. It also keys out with T. phaseoli Sethi & Swarup, 1968; T. hordei Khan, 1972 and T. microconus Siddiqi, Mukherjee & Dasgupta, 1982. It differs from T. phaseoli in having shorter body length, longer tail, greater number of tail annules, shorter stylet, less number of labial annules, presence of sinuous canals and longer spicules and gubernaculum in males; from T. hordei in having less number of labial annules, shorter stylet, differently shaped tail, greater number of tail annules and presence of sinuous canals; and from T. microcomus in having longer tail, greater number of tail annules, distinct spermatheca with sperms, presence of sinuous canals and presence of males.
