Abstract:
Wireless Sensor Networks have several civil and military applications enabled by the fact that sensor nodes can observe phenomena very closely. In this paper the authors have extended some of their previous work [9] and evaluate the Quasi Centralized Clustering Approach ‘QCCA’, for real time data forwarding. QCCA is based on heterogeneous wireless sensor networks in which the sensor network is partitioned into disjoint clusters, each has a powerful node that act as cluster head and other less powerful nodes for sensing the environment. The ordinary sensing nodes only communicate with their respective cluster heads while the cluster heads aggregate the data received from the sensor nodes and then forward it to the sink. The sink can be either mobile or static. Cluster based approach eliminates redundant transmissions by restricting the communication with the sink to only cluster heads and restricting communication of sensor nodes to respective cluster heads.
