Abstract:
Previous estimates of hydroelectric potential in the country and certain characteristics inherent with our hydel power are carefully analysed. The role of hydro in meeting the projected electricity demand upto 2000 AD are also outlined keeping in view the continuously rising fossil fuel prices. The paper then examines pumped-storage schemes in conjunction with spare unclear capacity as possible mode of maximizing hydro share in the overall electricity generation for improving the capacity factors of nuclear plants.
