Abstract:
Voltametric study for electrogeneration of chlorine and bromine was done with gold wire electrode (anode) using 2M. H2SO4 as the background electrolyte. Reversibility of C1 2C1- coup/8s Oas established by studying various dependences : Concentration dependence, half wave potential, long analysis, effect of scanning rate and speed of rotation. The possibility of interference caused by complex formation at the surface of the electrode was observed especially with higher concentrations of chloride and bromide. This degree of interference is relatively greater in case of chloride when its concentration approaches to 1 x 10-3 M. It was observed that at this concentration there was an abrupt decrease in the current due to recoverage of the surface of the electrode due to complex formation. The minimum concentration tried in case of potassium chloride was = 0.25 x 10-3 M while in case of potassium bromide it was = 0.5 x 10-5M.
