Abstract:
The addition of one of the dissociation products to a gas equilibrium does not only change. The concentration of the added substance but also, when the addition is performed at constant temperature and pressure, the concentrations of the other reactants because of the change in volume. Therefore it will be difficult to predict what will be the reaction. For different types of dissociation this problem is solved. In the particular case of ammonia a graph is made of the change of the degree of dissociation when the amount of nitrogen added changes from zero to infinite.
