Abstract:

Ten species of the phyla Chlorophyta and Vaucheriophyta have been collected from various freshwater habitats in Rabwah and Sargodha cities of the Punjab Province, Pakistan during March to August 1994. They were taxonomically investigated and found to belong to three classes, five orders, five families and eight genera. Members of the phylum Chlorophyta with nine species were found to be more prevalent than those of the Vaucheriophyta with one species only. Oedogonium with three species was the most commonly occurring genus, while rest of the genera were represented by a single species each. Vaucheria longata occurred in edaphic condition and Culeochacte scutata as epiphyte, while other species were found in free floating state.
