Abstract:
Twelve anatomical characters of Basmati-370 Aus Balam, TKM-6, IR-13641-24 and IR-198007-21-2-2 were studied. The changes in borer infestation were affected highly significantly by the changes in the stem-area, the lumen-area, the area under stem-wall, depth of groove, the distance between and width of vascular bundles in the outer as well as in the inner rings, the thickness of epidermis, stem-wall, hypodermis and of the ground tissues of the stem. The changes in these characters were positively correlated with the changes in borer infestation of these cultivars except those in the last four where the first two characters had a non-significant correlation and the last two were negatively correlated to it. The various characters on the whole accounted for 87.06% of the changes in borer infestation. Each of these characters influenced the resistance in its individual capacity and did not overshadow the influence of other characters.
