Abstract:
Fibroblasts in conventional cultures (glass or plastic) in monolayer form show the Phenomenon of density dependent inhibition of growth. The same cells grown in the form of "sail" sheets in a type (3 dimensional) substrate nitex are multilayered and confluency did not prevent cell division taking place. Application of mechanical tension in fibroblast sheets has shown the involvement of a mechanical factor in the control of cell cycle, hence stimulates tritiated thymidine incorporation (DNA synthesis) in chick embryo fibroblasts.
