Abstract:
Deficiency or toxicity of any one nutrient results in reduction of plant growth and ultimately yield. For getting maximum yield of seedcotton, knowledge of evaluation of the nutrient status of cotton is essential. In the situation where analytical facilities are not available, the techniques like tissue test; transfer of plants into incomplete nutrient solutions and use of plant symptoms may provide qualitative estimates of nutrient element status of the plant. However, plant analysis is essential to have a correct value about nutrient element concentration in plant tissue. Plant analysis is widely used-in world as diagnostic tool for nutrient deficiency or toxicity. Further research is needed for the selection of index tissue, time of sampling, nutrient interaction and biochemical tests for diagnosing the nutrient status of cotton. It is, suggested that critical nutrient levels for maximum cotton yield should be determined locally for each variety.
