Abstract:
Peanuts, an important oil-seed crop was grown under different levels of salinity created by NaCI. The different salinity levels used were 2. 5, 5. 0, 7. 5, 10. 0, 12. 5 and 15. 0 dStm-1. Almost all phases of growth were adversely affected by the different salinity regimes. Germination was severely affected by the addition of NaCI to the soil substrate. Ninety eight percent germination was recorded in the control treatments 20 days after sowing which dropped down to 92% at 2. 5 dSm-1 level. With further increase in the salt levels from 2.5 to upto 15. 0 dSm-1l, there was a concurrent decrease in the percent germination until no germination occurred at the maximum salt level.
