Abstract:
The low-permeability reservoirs that produce dry natural gas are mainly predicted with the help of tight gas sand. A tight gas reservoir can contain multiple layers or a single layer, may be shallower deep, and may have both low or high pressure and temperature. Throughout the world, the petroleum industry has been shifting from conventional hydrocarbon resources to conventional hydrocarbon resources as the conventional ones are depleting due to increase in energy demand. Due to this reason, the tight gas sand can be helpful in fulfilling the energy demands as it is one of the main unconventional hydrocarbon reserves. Tight reservoirs are governed by various principles and possible reasons. Darcy's law of fluid flow in porous media is one such principle that be used to easily determine the permeability of the reservoir and its effect on the flow of the gas. Effective permeability of a reservoir is also affected by other parameters and factors including viscosity, capillary pressure, saturation, and effective porosity. However, despite the success of finding tight gas sand reservoirs in different areas of Pakistan, there is an urgent need to drill more wells in tight gas reservoir to replace the huge volume of natural gas.
