Abstract:
Baccharis salicifolia is a large bush with sticky foliage which bears plentiful small, fuzzy, pink, or red-tinged white flowers. Baccharis salicifoliahas significant medicinal value because it is used for the treatment of various chronic diseases. Leaves and branches are used as anti-inflammatory drugs to treat gynecological diseases, diarrhea, dysentery, and respiratory conditions. In this study the fresh leaves of Baccharis salicifoliawere collected and dried in shade, then the leaves of this plant were grinded and made powder. Extracts were prepared in different solvents (ethanol, methanol, chloroform, and aqueous). The phytochemical analysis indicated the presence of major phytoconstituents like alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and terpenoids etc. Antioxidant assay of Baccharis salicifolia leaf extracts was carried out by using DPPH, ABTS and iron chelating method which showed that Baccharis salicifolia leaves extracts have high antioxidant activity. The presence of different phytoconstituents and antioxidant properties showed that Baccharis salicifolia can be further used for the treatment of various diseases.
