Abstract:
The isolated perfused mesenteric arterial bed of rat was used to investigate the effect of thromboxane antagonist, AH23848 on the vasoconstriction induced by Noradrenaline (NA) and vasopressin on vascular smooth muscle. Thromboxane antagonist, AH23848 (2, 4, 6, 8, ug/ml) was shown to be effective in relaxing constrictions of the same magnitude produced by NA. An irreversible inhibition of vasoconstriction was achieved when AH23848 (0.8 ug/ml) was administered concomitantly with Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) (0.75 ug/ml).
