Abstract:
The aim of the study was to see the outcome of closed reduction and percutaneous pinning of supracondylar fracture of humerus. This was a prospective study. Fifty patients were included in the study. Mean follow-up was 12 months. Fifteen patients were managed with closed reduction and 15 with Open Reduction and Internal Fixation (ORIF). Twenty patients were treated with closed reduction and percutaneous pinning. The clinical outcome was evaluated with Flynn’s criteria. Ninety five percent patients treated with closed reduction and percutaneous pinning were classed as excellent or good results as compared to 60% in the closed reduction group and 65% in the ORIF group. In view of these results, we recommend closed reduction and percutaneous pinning for the treatment of displaced supracondylar fractures in children.
