Taxonomic study of the family Hydrodictyaceae (Volvocophyceae shameel) from North-eastern areas of Pakistan.

Abstract:
Five species of green microalgae belonging to the genera, Hydrodictyon A. Roth and Pediastrum Mayen were collected from running water channels, stagnant water ponds, paddy fields, roadside marshes and canal puddles at Gujranwala, Jauharabad, Jhang, Kasur, Lahore, Sheikhupura and Sialkot districts of the Punjab, Bahrain and Kalam in Swat (NWFP) of Pakistan as well as Chenari of Azad Kashmir during April 2003 to August 2006. They were taxonomically investigated and are being described for the first time from these areas. Although they were found to grow in all the seasons of the year but mostly occurred in spring.
