Abstract:
A brief description of tea growing and the efforts made to boost its growth in Pakistan is given. The ratio of tea production in different countries of the world has been compared with Pakistan. The acreage, production, consumption, and exports have been summarized. The characteristics of fermented, semi-fermented and unfermented tea, its chemical constituents and its physiological role on human body have been given. Recent efforts to make powdered and instant tea which is important for army rations owing to economy in space, packing, and storage have been mentioned.
