Abstract:
After 20 years of mass compaigns supported by WHO, in 49 countries where 46 million people were treated with penicillin, yaws and endemic syphilis are on the retreat. But even penicillin is not enough to overcome venereal diseases. Young people in a changing world are particularly vulnerable and, despite two decades of efforts, the rate of disease has again soared in some countries to that of the period after World War II.
