Abstract:
Bioactive compounds of Morus nigra fruits were extracted using different solvents such as 100, 80 and 50% of methanol, ethanol, and acetone. The extracts were evaluated for their antioxidant potential, phenolic variations and biological activity. The crude extract yields ranged from 10.91 to 34.52 G/100g/Dry Weight (DW) with Total Phenolic Contents (TPCs) and Total Flavonoid Contents (TFC) 16.25-110.23 GAE mg/G/DW and 6.23- 43.62 CE mg/G/DW, respectively. Fruits of Morus nigra exhibited high scavenging activity and reducing power with contribution of IC50 50.39-66.57 and EC50 484.1 to 1720.3 mg/mL of extract, respectively. The higher value of TPC and TFC were obtained by 100% ethanol, whereas scavenging activity and reducing potential were higher for 80% ethanol and 50% methanol extract. The extracts exhibited the antimicrobial activity: values of 14.23-31.16 mm/DW against E. coli, 10.30-28.16 mm/DW against S. aureus, 9.1-29.46 mm/DW against B. subtilis, and 1.166-14.26mm/DW against S. typhae. All extracts contained a wide range of phenolic acids among which Gallic acid was most diversified phenolic which is useful for pharmaceutical industry. It can be concluded from the present data that extraction solvents have notable effect on the antioxidant attributes, phenolics and antibacterial activity. Overall, the results of this study showed that extracts of Morus nigra possessed superior antioxidant activity, good potential of antibacterial activity and significant amount of phenolic acids.
