Abstract:
Detailed morphometric measurements of 214 specimen of O. argenteus were taken during July, 1970 to February, 1971. For the present work it was assumed that the samples had come from a single homogeneous fish stock. Hence a statistical model describing the multiple regression of standard length(XI). head length (X2) interorbital space (x3) distance snout tip to eye (x4) depth (X5) `and circumstances (x6) of body on the total length of fish has been constructed and is given below: Y=0.548+0.386 X 1-0.011 X 2+0.106 X 3+0.080X4+0.580, 15+0.475X6. This model contains its utility especially in future racial studies of the fish by comparing it with the model constructed on similar data of same or some other region. Any difference in the models would indicate a difference at least in the external structure of the fishes.
