Abstract:
In the manurial trials of Dacca Farm in 1953, it was found that the application of ammonium sulphate, muriate of potash and farmyard manure significantly increased the height, thickness, green weight and fibre weights of jute plants. A dose of 180 lbs. N per acre showed significant increase in growth and yield of plants over the next two lower doses of 120 lbs. and 60 lbs. N. Neither the economy of the treatment on jute cultivation nor its effect on fibre quality was studied. Phosphatic fertilizer either alone or in combination showed comparatively less effect on jute plants. Manurial treatment did not show any effect on the retention of leaves but it was affected by the age of plants.
