Abstract:
In order to know the optimum picking time, the fruit of seven citrus cultivars were collected and anlysed chemically at five different stages of development. During maturation the juice, total soluble solids (Brix- ) and sugar content gradually increased while acidity decreased in all the cultivars. Trends in vitamin C content differed, depending upon the cultivar. The Brix/acid ratios increased as the fruit matured and could be used as an index of maturity. In over-mature fruit, the juice percentage and vitamin C were adversely affected. December was the normal picking time for Mosambi, Blood Red and Mian Majidi, January for Jaffa, February for Washington Naval and March for Valencia late and Kinnow.
